Ominous black cylinder (I'm looking at you, Amazon Echo!), or cute fuzzy panda bear? I know which I'd rather have!

MiataCage kit starting to come together and looking vaguely cage-like

Monday, March 30th, 2015
Haven't counted how many hours I've put into this project so far… Let's just say that whatever you're paying your race car fabricator for a cage, it's not enough. 😉

"Xoogler" Mikey D probably isn't anyone's prototype for "hero", but I'd wager that through his actions and selfless dedication, he's improved and saved more lives than most of us ever will.

"The maleness of the sport may be of particular concern as it becomes a more…

"The maleness of the sport may be of particular concern as it becomes a more popular pastime that, like golf, has the convenient auxiliary benefit of lubricating the gears of business. Enthusiasts say that taking a potential employee, customer, investor or founder of a hot start-up out to a day at the track makes for a connection that exerts a hold even when you’re off the track. It’s a connection that, for now, not many women are making."

Unsurprising: motorsports, even at the "grassroots" level, has a diversity problem. I have the privilege of knowing a few accomplished and talented women racers, and I think without exception they would tell you that they've had to work significantly harder than their male counterparts to achieve the level of respect and recognition that they have.

As a enthusiast, participant and promoter of the sport I believe that improving diversity is not only a matter of "fairness", it's one of survival. Here's an opinion piece I wrote on the topic last year: http://blog.motorsportreg.com/the-next-ten-thousand-members

Lastly, I would take the piece's author Manjoo to task with a giant "citation needed" comment with regards to the remark about motorsports being "legendarily inaccessible to women" (true in essence, but needlessly hyperbolic), and especially about the closing snark: "In other words, racing is like Uber, but for rich guys" (leaving readers with that impression can only worsen the problem).

Don't tell me about how it's "3/14/15"

Saturday, March 14th, 2015
That's only true if you use the idiotic US short date format and a two-digit year (did no-one learn anything from the Y2k scare?). (Not to mention a Western calendar, but insofar as all calendar year bases are equally arbitrary… okay, fine.) #piday

Maybe it's because I just watched Citizenfour and am currently reading Glenn Greenwald's No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, the NSA, and the U.S. Surveillance State but I found this tweet deliciously ironic…
